Duties Description Working under a skilled trades-worker, will be assisting in general maintenance,repair and infrastructure improvements at State facilities. Duties to include but not limited to plumbing, electrical,carpentry, masonry and some medium/heavy equipment operation.
Assisting with hazardous tree removal.
Unpleasant work involving sewage and garbage removal.
Will be required to assist with snow removal.
May be required to assist the Marine mechanic with basic repairs under their supervision.
Minimum Qualifications Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2027, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
Transportation needs of this position require use of a state vehicle and adhering to the Department’s Vehicle Policy. You must have and maintain a valid driver’s license for this position.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Overtime may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
Must have certification to operate motorized boats or personal watercrafts at time of appointment.
